The Virginia AFL-CIO and Virginia State Building Trades are thrilled to announce a landmark decision by the Newport News City Council to establish a task force dedicated to exploring collective bargaining opportunities for workers in Newport News. In a resounding 7-0 vote, the City Council has demonstrated their commitment to empowering workers and ensuring fair representation through union membership.

"We commend the Newport News City Council for their visionary leadership and unwavering support of workers' rights," said Doris Crouse-Mays, President of the Virginia AFL-CIO. "This vote marks a pivotal moment for labor in Newport News and sets the stage for meaningful dialogue on the importance of collective bargaining in our community."

The task force, which will be inclusive of diverse stakeholders, represents the first crucial step towards establishing fair labor practices that benefit both employees and the City of Newport News alike.
